Ben Franklin was asked by someone after the Constitutional Convention what type of government he had created for us. He replied “a Republic if you can keep it”. I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I would argue that the Republic was damn near destroyed in the turn of the twentieth century by Woodrow Wilson. With the pass of the Owen-Glass act that created the Federal Reserve and the seventeenth amendment preventing state legislatures from appointing US Senators.
Why did our Founders choose a Republican form of government? It had never been tried before in such a way as they chose. We all have heard this and there are many explanations out there. There are many explanations as why Ben Franklin answered that way too. One of the many may be because he knew as we all do today that when a group of people are hungry for power they will do anything to keep it even if that means not keeping the Republic.
Many of us look around and wonder what can we do, can we keep it/restore our Republic? I have wrote and spoke about educating ourselves a great deal. I believe that is step one. You must read and understand our Constitution. You must have at least a vague understanding of what our Founders where thinking and what they believed. Ok, now what. What do we do?
Many out there are willing to fight to keep our country from being overrun from the left. I have seen videos and read articles about those of you that feel desperate and are wondering if its too late. Have you stopped to consider how a Republic should function? Do you know whom represents you in the government? If so, do they represent your values, do you agree with anything or somethings they stand for? Do you know what your neighbors value? Even if your neighbors have a Biden sticker on their car and that causes your stomach to turn? Its worth having a conversation with your neighbors to find common ground, with those you can.
In a Republican form of government representation is of great importance. This begins locally. What are your local values? What matters to you and those local to you? We have to start conversations with those around us in our communities. If you see someone without a mask on maybe that would be a good place to start. This means we have tools in our tool box and there is something we can do. Get started. Get involved.
If being involved locally and getting to know those around you is how a Republican government functions its no wonder that those things have been highly discouraged. All of us have noticed this. Churches and local gatherings have been illegal or are still illegal in some places. The federal government is too powerful and the only check on that power is local government/state government. No wonder they want it stopped. Do you know what a convention of states is? Is that possible now? Can we encourage three-fourths of the states to do something. We must begin getting involved and encouraging those around us and those that represent us to make change. We can do it and the reason I know that is because the left did it. Over the past fifty years the left has worked locally to infiltrate everything. Look at your local school even the one that you think is ok, its not. The only thing is, we don’t have fifty years.
There is tremendous momentum out there. I have heard from several prominent people that there is no opposition party. That is true the current republicans in the federal government are not a true opposition party. If anything they are the do-nothing party. The spineless, gutless, no principled, all-talk-no-action party. But, those of us not in the federal government including local politicians are in opposition to the left, thank God. We can be the opposition, a wave of forgotten, uncared for people that will put their foot down and say no more. With this political power placed in the our beloved Republican Constitution we can retaliate and rise in opposition to the left.
I hope to see you out there educating yourself and speaking with each other to start a bloodless revolution (hopefully). See you out there.
